Bratislava Capitals Secure Commitment from GOHL Standout Matthew Mirda

Bratislava, Slovakia — The Bratislava Capitals are proud to announce the commitment of forward Matthew Mirda, currently competing in the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL), to the Capitals program. Mirda’s commitment marks a meaningful homecoming, as he returns to the country of his parents’ birth to continue his hockey and academic journey.

Mirda brings a strong two-way game, junior experience, and a competitive edge developed in one of Canada’s most respected junior leagues. His decision to join the Bratislava Capitals reflects both his European roots and the organization’s growing reputation as a destination for ambitious student-athletes seeking elite competition, education, and a pathway to professional opportunities in Europe.

“Matthew is a driven, coachable player who understands what it takes to compete at a high level,” said a representative of the Bratislava Capitals coaching staff. “His experience in the GOHL, combined with his personal connection to Slovakia, makes this a great fit for both Matthew and our program.”

The Capitals continue to attract North American talent with European heritage, offering a unique environment that blends high-level hockey, cultural immersion, and academic development. Mirda’s return to Slovakia underscores the organization’s mission to provide players with global opportunities while honoring their personal backgrounds.

“I’m excited to return to Slovakia and represent the Bratislava Capitals,” said Mirda. “This is an opportunity to grow as a player and a person, connect with my family’s roots, and compete in a strong hockey environment.”

Matthew Mirda is expected to join the Capitals ahead of the upcoming season, where he will immediately compete for a key role within the lineup.
