VSM BRATISLAVA CAPITALS ADD CANADIAN FORWARD MATIAS BAUMANN FOR 2026–2027 EUCHL SEASON

BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA — August 29, 2026 — The VSM Bratislava Capitals have announced the commitment of Canadian forward Matias Baumann for the 2026–2027 European Union College Hockey League (EUCHL) season.

The 2006-born Baumann arrives in Bratislava following two productive seasons with the North Peace Navigators of the Northwest Junior Hockey League (NWJHL).

Baumann enjoyed a breakout 2024–2025 campaign, recording 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points in 38 regular-season games. He followed that performance with another strong season in 2025–2026, scoring 12 goals and adding 10 assists in just 25 regular-season games. Baumann continued his production in the playoffs, contributing two goals and five assists in eight games.

A native of Canada and a product of Blackfoot MHA, Baumann brings offensive ability and junior hockey experience to a Capitals roster that is continuing to take shape ahead of the inaugural EUCHL season. Elite Prospects lists Baumann as a forward and a 2006 birth year.

“We're excited to add Matias to our program,” said the Capitals coaching staff. “He has demonstrated that he can produce offensively and compete at a high level. We believe the opportunity to play college hockey in Europe will be an important next step in his development, and we're looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish in Bratislava.”

Baumann will join an increasingly international Capitals roster as VSM Bratislava prepares for its first EUCHL campaign. The program offers players the opportunity to combine competitive collegiate hockey with their university education while living and studying in Bratislava, Slovakia.

For Baumann, the move represents an opportunity to continue his hockey career in Europe while pursuing his academic goals.

“Matias is exactly the type of player we want in Bratislava,” the Capitals organization said. “He is coming off two productive junior seasons, and we believe there is still significant upside in his game. We're excited to give him the opportunity to take the next step with the Capitals.”

The VSM Bratislava Capitals will compete in the inaugural 2026–2027 EUCHL season, with home games being played at Tipos Arena in Bratislava.
