VSM Bratislava Capitals Add Size and Experience With Signing of Defenseman Robert Letko

The VSM Bratislava Capitals are getting bigger, deeper and harder to play against.

The Capitals have announced the signing of 6-foot-6, 234-pound defenseman Robert Letko, adding another imposing presence to a roster being assembled for the club's inaugural season representing VSM City University of Seattle in the European Union College Hockey League.

Letko brings legitimate size to the Capitals' blue line along with experience in Slovak hockey and European university hockey. The 2002-born Slovak developed through the HC Prešov system and has competed in the Slovak hockey structure as well as the EUHL. He was also part of an EUHL championship team during the 2021–22 season.

Now he is coming to Bratislava.

And the timing matters.

The Capitals are not simply filling roster spots. They are putting together a team designed to compete immediately.

At 6-foot-6, Letko gives head coach Karol Fako a physical dimension that is difficult to teach and impossible to ignore. His addition gives Bratislava another large defender capable of bringing size and presence to a team that continues to reshape its roster ahead of the 2026–27 campaign.

“Robert gives us something you can't manufacture,” said Fako. “He's a big defenseman with experience, and he gives us another physical presence on the blue line. We're continuing to build this team with players who want to compete.”

THE MESSAGE TO PLAYERS STILL WAITING

The Letko signing also sends a very clear message to players who are still undecided about where they will play this season:

The Capitals are moving.

Roster spots are disappearing.

Bratislava is already assembling its first EUCHL team, and players who have spent the summer waiting for an opportunity now have a decision to make.

The Capitals offer something fundamentally different: college hockey in Europe, an American-accredited university education, life in Bratislava and the opportunity to compete immediately in a league built specifically around university hockey.

For players who were cut late, left without a roster spot, unhappy with their current situation or simply looking for a legitimate opportunity to continue playing while pursuing their education, the window is closing.

“We aren't waiting around for players to decide whether they want to be part of this,” the Capitals organization said. “We're building. Robert Letko is the latest addition, and we're continuing to look for players who believe they belong here.”

That approach has defined Bratislava's roster construction throughout the summer.

The Capitals have targeted players who want more than another year of junior hockey or a questionable pay-to-play opportunity. The objective is to give players a genuine university experience while competing at a high level against other university programs throughout Europe.

And with the season approaching, the available opportunities are becoming limited.

BRATISLAVA IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS

The Capitals will play their home games at Tipos/Nepela Arena, the home of HC Slovan Bratislava, giving the new program a major-league hockey environment in Slovakia's capital.

The organization is building its program around VSM City University of Seattle, providing student-athletes with an American university education while allowing them to live and play hockey in Bratislava.

For Letko, the next chapter starts now.

For the players still looking for theirs, the clock is running.

The roster is taking shape. The competition is coming. And Bratislava is not waiting.

Welcome to the Capitals, Robert Letko.
